Alison Keane Educating in Mindfulness offers mindfulness training and mentoring for academics, TAFE lecturers and teachers and senior staff in primary and secondary colleges and schools throughout Queensland.

For Teachers

Mindfulness training is offered in small group settings, one on one, and in larger groups. Regular on-going mindfulness practice may alleviate stress associated with heavy workloads, habitual multi-tasking and work life imbalance.

For their Students

Breathing Space is a programme for Years 11 & 12 using mindfulness as a core skill to:

.  lessen stress and generalised feelings of anxiety

.  improve academic focus and performance

.  expand interpersonal awareness

.  promote psycho-social wellbeing

Students are taught practical, accessibleand healthy ways to take responsibility for their study load and their relationships, and to safely manage stresses associated with these final years of school.This supportive programme includes formal and informal meditation training, somatic or body awareness exercises, hatha yoga, self-reflection and didactic learning. Skills learnt may also berecalled later in adult life as a way of handling stressful situations.Breathing Space is available to secondary colleges as a presentation for final year 'Focus Days', longer half day seminars or as a two or four weekly programme. Please enquire what format suits your school or college and whether AKEM can further tailor the programme to suit.

The 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) group course may also be useful in the management of stress, anxiety and depression. This programme is suitable for all age groups and prior meditation experience, while helpful, is not a pre-requisite.
